The Local Newspaper Index indexes the Orion from Feb. 1981 to present and the Chico News & Review from January 1983 to present. The purpose of the index is to provide users with a source of local information related to campus and community issues. The user may find information in both newspapers on a particular subject but may find it useful to target a specific topic by narrowing searches to one newspaper only. For instance, campus issues are more thoroughly covered and accessible by using The Orion as a source, while wider, community based issues are generally covered in depth by the Chico News and Review. Although not mutually exclusive, this is the advice we give to users as a rule of thumb.
Abridged edition, includes fee-based news archive from Oct. 7, 1999 (free access to past 14 days).
